ICT2015 – a European meeting of minds
“Innovate, Connect, Transform” was the theme of ICT2015, a three-day event in Lisbon from 20-22 October to discuss the latest developments and funding calls for research and innovation in the Horizon 2020 ICT programme. Attended by the most prominent European universities, research centres, corporates, SMEs and startups active in information and communication technologies, the event was an opportunity to connect our thinking with other innovations across Europe. VITAL was represented by our Coordinator Dr Martin Serrano of Insight NUIG, Professor John Soldatos of AIT and Kasper de Graaf of Images&Co.
The conference was addressed by European Commissioners Oettinger (Digital Economy and Society) and Moedas (Research, Science and Innovation), as well as by Roberto Viola, the Director-General of DG Connect, MEPs, industry practitioners and thought leaders from many countries. A session on ‘The Internet of Things on the rise’ discussed the Commission’s plans for large-scale pilots in areas where EU-added value is maximised, bringing together the technology supply and the application demand sides in real-life settings. VITAL is contributing an important element with our focus on interoperability between silos and IoT systems, connected cities and, ultimately, connected smart nations.
